Women of Wisdom (WOW) was formed in 2006 by a group of civic-minded women intent on giving back to their community. They pooled their resources and set out to make a difference in the towns in which they live. In order to fund this endeavor that uses its resources to empower those in need, they put their heads together and launched Sweet Charity, a resale shop located on Main Street in Vergennes, Vermont.
Fast forward fifteen years, the group is now primarily funded through the ever-evolving, highly-popular shop Sweet Charity, which continually provides a revenue source for funding local philanthropic projects chosen by Women of Wisdom.
Sweet Charity sells primarily household items donated by the community and, in turn, Women of Wisdom responds to funding needs that occur within the community and beyond our borders.

Mission Statement
Women of Wisdom (WOW) is a group of individuals serving members of the Addison County community through funding
and support, providing opportunities for hope, dignity, and self-reliance.

and inclusion for all.
What We've Achieved
Made annual donations to community organizations: Each year WOW donates to organizations such as the Bixby Library, Greater Vergennes Boys and Girls Club, Addison County Parent/Child Center, Students’ Peace Initiative at VUHS, John Graham Shelter, Vergennes Food Shelf, Open Door Clinic, Vergennes Partnership, Helen Porter Rehabilitation, Restorative Justice, Morgan Horse Farm, and Addison County Readers.
Responded to funding requests from individuals and families throughout the year who need support with fuel assistance, housing, medical and dental care, and other critical needs. Individual applications can be made by clicking on the button at the bottom of the page.
Participated in Caring Globally: WOW members have made presentations about their global volunteering, for example caring for orphans with AIDS in Africa and supporting women and families in Nicaragua who live in extreme poverty.
Organized COWS for WOWS: Donated, slaughtered and delivered a whole cow to the Food Shelf.
Supported “PEEPS” a program of raising chickens and donating the eggs every week to the local Food Shelf.
Engaged in community service projects with students and participated in Peace One Day.
Recognized and celebrated individuals involved in community service through dinners and service awards.
